3 things to do with figs

Figs are in season and maybe you've also noticed that with 10 grams of sugar per piece, it's not exactly something you can enjoy in the amounts that you would like to.

While fresh raw figs are amazing, here are three other ways that will make your wonderfully sweet figs last a long way and not ruin your sugar conscious dieting.

1) Frozen Figs
This is as close to ice cream as nature can get. Put your figs on a skewer, place in the freezer in a closed container and let them sit in there for a few hours. Take out and let them soften a bit, 5 minutes is usually enough. Enjoy instead of ice cream. 40 calories per medium sized fig isn't bad at all.

2) You can use frozen figs to cool off drinks, especially white wines, for parties. They defrost and mix well with the wine. Can you have alcohol as a part of a healthy diet even when trying to lose fat? Moderation is key here, please enjoy.

3) Frozen yogurt

Of course, dessert is always welcome, this summer treat is easy to make:

you need:
1 fig
1 cup strained full fat yogurt
1 tbsp honey
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Mix the yogurt, honey and vanilla and stir vigorously. Cut the fig in 6 pieces and place three at the bottom and three on top, pouring the mixture in between. Freeze for 3-4 hours and enjoy after letting it soften a bit. If you choose to turn it, carefully separate the dessert from the edges of the cup you used to make it, preferably using a heated thin knife.
